Jonesy's Eatbar, the cozy gastropub operated by Leigh Jones (who also runs the Horseshoe Lounge next door as well as the Bar Car and Inga's Alpine Lounge), is changing its name today to Centennial Tavern. That's not the only change: The spot is also simplifying its menu and shifting the focus from chef-driven food to a more neighborhood-tavern approach. This isn't the first time Jones has re-branded the space, either: Back in 2008, she made the change from the Dish Bistro to Jonesy's. Expect more beer -- eight new taps have been added -- and a few minor changes to the interior. And don't worry, those famous fries won't be going away.
Along with the name change, Centennial Tavern is adding what the kitchen is calling rustic pizza pies and trimming back on the entree selection. Jones notes that a few favorites on the Jonesy's menu will stay, along with some throwbacks from the original Dish Bistro menu: Dad's Steak and the Lamby Joe sliders make the list, and the Dish's lamb gnocchi and duck posole will pop up occasionally as specials.
"We want to go back to what we first envisioned for Jonesy's," says Jones. "We'll keep the heart of our menu, but we want to be known as that neighborhood tavern." While the gastropub concept was new to Denver in 2008, it's come to mean too many things at too many price points, she explains; the new goal is to keep prices affordable and simple. And since the place will be in the hands of new general manager and proprietor J.D. Dossett, Jones adds, it made sense to take her name off the branding.
The new theme will also bring new hours; The tavern will no longer offer lunch on weekdays, but will open at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, with happy hour until 7 p.m. nightly. Saturday and Sunday bottomless mimosa brunches will stay, though, and a shortened pub menu will be available on Sunday nights, rather than the full dinner menu.
Centennial Tavern will celebrate its new identity with a party tonight at 6 p.m. with live music from Kerry Pastine and the Crime Scene, free food and booze offers, and an all-night happy hour.
