The pace of restaurant opening increased dramatically over March and into this week, culminating in what almost seemed like an April Fool's Day joke, with six bars and restaurants opening today or tomorrow. March saw Justin Brunson's new American grill, Masterpiece Kitchen, open in Lowry; a second Steuben's debut in Arvada; Grind Kitchen + Libations open in Cherry Creek and Via Perla start cooking in Boulder, to name just a few.

But there were also a couple of temporary closures due to fire. Leña experienced a kitchen fire earlier this week but expects to reopen after the weekend; it will roll out a new menu at the same time. The damage was more severe when an electrical fire broke out at School House Kitchen and Libations in Old Town Arvada; the place remains closed. Fortunately no employees were injured in either fire, and fundraising efforts are helping to keep employees on the payroll until the School House can reopen.

Before we recap the action in March, here are the openings and closings for today and tomorrow alone:

Opening:
Biju's Little Curry Shop, 4279 Tennyson Street
Matsuhisa, 98 Steele Street
The Preservery, 3040 Blake Street
$5 Buck Drinkery (formerly Lime XS), 730 East Sixth Avenue
Port Side (formerly Huckleberry Roasters), 2500 Larimer Street
River North Brewing, 6021 Washington Street

Closing:
Denver Eagle, 1475 36th Street
