In late August, we reported that Linda and Garen Austin had acquired the space at 1710 Sherman Street with the intention of converting it into Mona's Cafe, a more casual rendition of the pair of Mona's Restaurants, located at 2364 15th Street and 141 South Broadway.

The new spot will open tomorrow at 6:30 a.m.

"As it stands, we'll be open from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.," says Linda. "But we'll see how happy hour goes, and then we'll think about extending our hours."

That happy hour is contingent on a liquor-license hearing taking place today. But since the Austins don't have any opposition, they expect it to go smoothly. And once they do have the ability to serve alcohol, they'll throw an official grand-opening party, probably in about two weeks.

The new Mona's will feature many of the same dishes available at its sibling restaurants, but Linda notes it'll also offer expanded options, including frittata, quiche and, our personal favorite, breakfast cookies. Those options, as well as all other menu items, can be ordered from a counter for dine-in, and many dishes will also be available to grab-and-go.
