Steuben's, the bar/restaurant at 523 East 17th Avenue that opened at 11 a.m. yesterday, will stay open until 3 p.m. today -- when its staff will take a well-deserved rest after 28 hours of continuous service.
We stopped by shortly after 5 p.m. New Year's Eve, for a celebration-cushioning green chile cheeseburger, the best in town. The staff was juggling a line out the door and an hour-long wait-list to eat inside (fortunately, the weather was balmy enough that people could be seated on the patio with no waiting -- ah, Denver!), while figuring out how to comply with state liquor laws come 2 a.m., when the bar had to shut down if the restaurant portion was to stay open.
Steuben's got the bar back open at 7 a.m. today, though, so hurry over for chicken and waffles and a Figgy's Manhattan -- crowned this year's Mile High Holiday cocktail.
And continue celebrating the new year -- and contributing to the scene's trickle-down economy -- by sampling other liquid assets at neighborhood joints around town.
