The Kitchen to Open Another Bistro in Cherry Creek

Kimbal Musk and Hugo Matheson are extending their restaurant empire with a new iteration of The Kitchen in Cherry Creek North. This will be fifth Kitchen (the others are located in Boulder, downtown Denver, Fort Collins and Chicago) and the ninth establishment overall for the team, which also runs three Next Door spots and one Upstairs (also in Boulder).

The newest member of the Kitchen family will be under new culinary guidance when it opens, as longtime executive chef Kyle Mendenhall departed the company late last month. A replacement for the eight-year veteran has not been named.

The Kitchen Cherry Creek will occupy a ground-floor slot in the Coda building at 100 Steele Street, an apartment tower currently under construction, with a completion date scheduled for August this year.
Like the original Kitchen — which opened in Boulder in 2004 — and its younger siblings, the new addition to the family will focus on locally grown produce and meats and building a sense of "community through food." A big part of that is the Kitchen Community, a non-profit organization founded by Matheson and Musk that has built more than 200 school gardens in Colorado, Chicago, Los Angeles and Memphis.
Menus at each of the Kitchens varies in order to capture the best in local ingredients; the Fort Collins branch features Hazel Dell mushrooms grown right in town and Koberstein Ranch beef from northeastern Colorado, while the Chicago outpost gathers much of its produce from Illinois farms. Expect that to continue at the Kitchen Cherry Creek, which will feature a wood-burning oven for turning out flatbreads and roasted meats. 

Although the Coda building will be angular and shiny, the Kitchen will go with a slightly more homey look with wood floors and exposed beams. The 120-seat space will include a large chef's table and bar, with an additional 45 seats on the patio.

Also in the works for later this year is a new Next Door in the Eastbridge Stapleton development.
