Uptown -- home to some restaurants that focus on the trendy side of life and a few bars where a single drink will have you seeing double. On the other side of the metro area is South Federal, home to a myriad of ethnic options -- Vietnamese, Chinese and Mexican, to name a few -- that draw in eaters from all over.
If you had to pick one, which would it be?
Here's the skinny on Uptown:
Pull up a map and stick a pin somewhere, anywhere, along 17th Avenue between Broadway and York Street, and the chances are good you'll hit an excellent restaurant. This stretch of asphalt that runs through Denver's Uptown neighborhood boasts about two dozen eateries, from longtime fixtures like the Avenue Grill and Strings to such modern mainstays as Steuben's and the Vine Street Pub to date-night hotspots like Olivea and D Bar Desserts, along with some rollicking bars, trendy coffee shops and a vegetarian mecca.
And here's what makes eating on South Federal great:
So pho, so good! The pho restaurants -- like Pho Duy and Pho 95 -- of South Federal Boulevard are just the start of the culinary pot-stirring along that stretch of road. You'll also find Vietnamese restaurants like New Saigon and Saigon Bowl that boast more expansive menus; Asian markets and bakeries that sell all matter of exotic ingredients (as well as some of those ingredients already rolled up into sandwiches); Chinese restaurants like Super Star Asian and Hong Kong Barbecue that have special, secret menus; other Chinese restaurants like Star Kitchen that roll out dim sum all day. And, of course, there's an endless array of Mexican options, from La Villa Real, a streetside taco truck, to mole-slinging Tarasco's to stands selling shrimp so fresh you'd swear you were on the coast.
Will it be Uptown or South Federal?
