Mountain Time: Sandzén in Colorado

1 of 12

"Untitled" (In the Foothills), Ca. 1912, Charcoal on paper, 12 x 18 inches, Greenough Trust Collection, Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery, Lindsborg, Kansas.

Blake Milteer, the director of the museum at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, has presented Sandzén in Colorado, a major retrospective of the oeuvre of Swedish-born but Colorado-claimed artist Birger Sandzén. This may be the largest exhibition ever devoted to Sandzén, and if Milteer hadn't put it on, most of these works would have been in storage or hanging over someone's fireplace. The venue is most appropriate, since Sandzén briefly taught at the Broadmoor Academy, which is the CSFAC's direct predecessor.
