Kalabrese and his Rumpelorchestra started off a little slow, but by the third or fourth song they had settled into a nice, tight funky house groove, which held for most of the set. Kalabrese roamed between keyboards, a drum kit and hand percussion, while singing mostly about the future.
Kalbreses Rumpelorchestra switched instruments along with him at various points. It fit the loose, jammy feel of the group.
He gets points for breaking up the color coordination of his yellow tie/yellow belt combo with those white sunglasses.
Enter Kutti MC, a special guest for Kalabreses set. This guy was so entirely unfunky that he circled all the way back to extreme funkiness. Ridiculous, geeky and at times unintelligible, he rapped in a mixture of English and what seemed to be German.
Kutti MC christens this gentleman Sugar Daddy. At least, I think thats what happened. I may be confused on this point.
The funky grooves of Kalabrese and his Rumpelorchestra have her dancing in a state of bliss.
Kalabrese gathers samples from the audience for a live improvisation/composition they recorded for posterity. You can probably find it on the net somewhere by now.
I can dig this gypsy/belly dancer vibe you only really see at events in Boulder.
Tipper may have the least interesting stage performance of any artist ever he looked exactly like this, from beginning to end but it hardly matters. The man plays Gods own breakbeats. His set was heavy, trippy, beautiful, harsh, sexy, abrasive and clever by turns, and managed to pull off all of the above simultaneously at a few points.
I have absolutely nothing to add to this picture.
If Alf is somehow culturally relevant again, even ironically, the 80s revival is in its last throes.
These girls are having fun. I recognize the look.
Do they call him the space cowboy? I would if I knew him. I hope that wouldnt annoy him too much.
This is Tipper again. See? Same expression, and he hasnt moved. He did switch his hands between a laptop, a mixer and some sort of scratch controller, turning almost 180 total degrees in the process of his set!
She seemed to enjoy Tipper.
How many Muppets died to make this outfit? Luckily, its skimpy so a) not many and b) it was worth it.
This hat is revolutionary.
Theodor Zox played a sweet mix of funky, pumping techno. It was the last set I caught before I had to go and it was a great end to my night.
These girls love to dance, and thats a very good thing.
