The Photographs of Music Scene Chronicler Extraordinaire John Koontz

John Koontz, who passed away earlier this year, spent his last years documenting Colorado's Front Range music scene through photos and videos. In our recently published profile of the soft-spoken music enthusiast, his friends and family speak to his boundless passion for witnessing and documenting the bands he loved.

If you are wanting to see Koontz's videos, he had a YouTube channel with more than a thousand live music videos. Above are some of the photos he posted to his Facebook page, chronicling Denver's music scene. Both are a testament to his dedication to the music but also to his craft in exploring ways to best capture bands in a variety of environments.

There will be a weekend memorial to Koontz, July 15-16, at the Skylark Lounge, organized by local show promoter Claudia Woodman, and you can find details about the bands and the venue here. All photos by John Koontz
