Uncrating a Van Gogh: Behind the Scenes

1 of 51

On October 10, 2012, Denver Art Museum employees uncrated and hung a very special piece by Vincent Van Gogh. In this particular painting, "Edge of a Wheatfield with Poppies," Van Gogh lightened up his palette considerably, using magentas against indigo with crisp reds. The piece will join more than seventy others in the museum's new Becoming Van Gogh exhibit, which explores the famous post-Impressionist's life and work. All photos by Elyse Mitchell.
