It’s not always easy to get people thinking and talking about helping the planet, which is why the University of Denver’s Newman Center is hosting Bolero Colorado, a ten-day series of performances, talks and tours. “We’re really passionate about how important it is for us to address environmental issues, sustainability and inclusiveness in Colorado,” notes spokeswoman Natalie Ryan.
The series kicks off September 17 at 7 p.m. at the Denver Botanic Gardens with Digital Nature, a multimedia party that promises to dazzle with music and video — and, of course, the DBG’s beautiful landscapes. Tickets are $8 to $10; visit www.botanicgardens.org for information.
Also opening on September 17 is Bella Gaia, which features violinist Kenji Williams performing in the Denver Museum of Nature and Science’s Gates Planetarium, backlit by spectacular images of Earth from space. Bella Gaia runs nightly at 8 p.m. through Saturday, September 19; tickets are $20 to $25. Visit www.dmns.org/adultprograms.
Other Bolero Colorado events include a tour of Xcel Energy’s Ponnequin Wind Farm and a screening of the documentary King Corn at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The series culminates on September 26 at the Newman Center with a dance performance featuring renowned choreographer Larry Keigwin’s new piece, also titled Bolero Colorado, as well as other Keigwin + Company works from its excellent repertoire.
