Family fun is smooth skating at Vail’s second annual HoliDaze celebration, where Patrick Chan, 2011 World Champion figure skater, and 2010 U.S. National Champion Rachel Flatt will star in the free Winter Solstice on Ice at the Arrabelle Ice Rink at Solaris Plaza in Vail Village today and tomorrow at 5 p.m. “It’s great to be able to bring athletes of their caliber out here to perform, and the outdoor ring is beautiful at twilight,” says spokeswoman Kelly Patton. “HoliDaze is really special, because it’s geared toward kids and families, there’s a lot going on in town, and it’s all free and holiday-themed. It’s a really fun time to be up in Vail.”

Come up early for a “Skate With the Stars” session from 3:15 to 4 p.m., or visit Santa’s Workshop at Manor Vail Lodge, 595 East Vail Valley Drive, which is open from 3 to 6 p.m.; there’s also a HoliDaze Kids Zone, where you can put your little elves to work making ornaments and singing carol karaoke. And stick around after the show for holiday songs with the Dickens Carolers, who’ll be making their way from Vail Village to Lionshead. For the full schedule of HoliDaze events through New Year’s Eve, visit www.vail.com/events/holidaze.
