Mommy humor appears to be the going thing: From its modest beginnings in Denver’s Highland neighborhood, Shayna Ferm’s Pump and Dump comedy show for frantic mothers desperately in need of some grown-up entertainment and mama-raderie continues to grow, seemingly with each and every show. On the heels of a national tour that took them to New York and Boston, Ferm and sidekick MC Doula are adding monthly shows at Comedy Works South (in addition to the ones they already do at Lannie’s Clocktower every last Wednesday of the month) because…why not? Suburban mommies need a break once in a while, too.
“Moms come up to us afterward and thank us, saying that this is the first time they’ve been out postpartum, and there will be these groups of moms who get together at our shows,” Ferm told Westword in a 2013 interview. “We’re all in this together, which is important to realize, because motherhood can make you feel so isolated, so alone. It’s nice to have someone who can relate, and come together by laughing at something fucked up.”
Give the ladies a big welcome home at tonight’s south-suburban Pump and Dump debut at 7:30 p.m. at Comedy Works South, 5345 Landmark Place in Greenwood Village.
