Cathy Phelps wants you to know that Denver Men With Heart is not a man-auction. “If somebody needs a handyman, they bid on these men’s services,” she clarifies. “We have flower arrangers, salsa dance teachers, computer repairmen. The men perform these services, and then they donate the fee. “They aren’t ‘auctioned off’ at all,” she adds. The terminology is debatable, but it’s all for a good cause: Proceeds benefit the Denver Center for Crime Victims, which has been serving ignored and underrepresented victims of crime in Denver for 27 years (Phelps is the executive director). Entry to the silent auction is $20, once in the door, you can throw in your bid or just hang around and eat the free appetizers, whichever you prefer. But note: “Beefcake” is not one of the services offered.

The bidding starts this afternoon at 4 p.m. and goes until 7 at Strings Restaurant, 1700 Humboldt Street; valet parking is included in the ticket price. For more information, go to www.denvervictims.org or call 303-860-0660.
