From learning to make a signature yarn tag and checking out the Ladies Fancywork Society's spectacular new installation to taking a museum tour with graphologist Kathi McKnight pointing out the signatures of the museum (complete with a mini reading of your own John Hancock), you'll enjoy a plethora of art-related fun this evening.
Too Much Funstival kickoff at the Taxi Pool (Friday, free) The Fine Gentlemen's Club's Too Much Funstival kicks off a jam-packed weekend of comedy, music and partying at Taxi tonight with a free pool party while bands like Sauna and Wheelchair Sportscamp play by the water. Rocky Horror Back to School Show at the Esquire Theatre (Friday, $8) Last month Denver's Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast broke the world record for the number of people watching the cult classic at Red Rocks. But this month you can see the crew back in their regular home, doing the time warp again to this cult classic in a special back-to-school edition of the show.
Spelling Bee(r) at Illegal Pete's DTC (Friday, free) Make up for ghosts of misspellings past (and create new ones) at the adult spelling bee at Illegal Pete's tonight. Every correct spelling wins you a free Breckenridge beer, which is sure to help your mental abilities as you move along in the contest.
A Taste of Colorado at Civic Center Park (Friday-Monday, free) Foodies of all kinds will rejoice at this annual festival devoted to the great eats of our state. Sample lots of snacks, watch bands on the main stage, and check out a variety of vendors at the outdoor fair.
Aztec Day of the Dead at Black Vulture (Friday-Saturday, free) It's never too early for Halloween. Celebrate the Aztec day of the dead at this art show and cultural event with face painting, food from Adobe Kitchen, and art related to death. Lucha Rama 3 Year Anniversary at Beauty Bar (Saturday, free before 10 p.m.) Celebrate three years of Lucha Rama at this extravaganza of Mexican Luchador fights, jello wrestling, and great tunes from DJ Wushu and Deejay Diabolic. Entry before 10 p.m. is free, and the night promises to be full of T-shirt giveaways and dance mayhem.
Zero Cool at the Deer Pile (Saturday, free) Laptop electronic music definitely has an appeal, but it's a nice break to see musicians manipulating real hardware. Tonight's Zero Cool music show has two rules: no turntables and no laptops. Watch while Disco for the Dead, Church Fire and Brotherhood of Machines create killer tunes without the help of Ableton.
