If you've always been fascinated with roller derby, but were afraid to go to an actual derby, now's your chance to learn about it in documentary form.Cross Ties Across Time at RedLine (Friday, Free) If a group show is more your cup of tea this weekend, you'll want to skip on down to RedLine for a showing of a big collection of different artists showcasing a wide variety of different styles and mediums. From landscape painting to circular installations, you'll be surrounded by great art.
Watch the Denver Gorilla Run at the Wynkoop Brewing Company (Saturday, free) While entering the Gorilla Run will require you to drop $100, you can watch the whole thing go down for free. It's bound to be a spectacle, especially considering the race is a 5.6K, meaning all those in gorilla costumes are bound to finish the race covered in a both sweat and fur. Rally to Restore Sanity: Denver at Civic Center Park (Saturday, free) If you aren't able to make it out to Washington, D.C., for the real thing, you might find solace in Denver's own Rally to Restore Sanity. The purpose is simple: get people to chill out. In a week where we've been bombarded by robo-calls, television ads and hateful comments from all sides of the political spectrum, this sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon to us.Día de los Muertos at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery (Saturday, Free) In the spirit of the Mexican tradition, The Day of the Dead isn't about sadness or worry about death, but an acknowledgement of it, which is why this event sounds like it's going to be a lot more fun than you'd expect. Dancing, live music, children's workshop, local artists -- it's going to be one hell of a party.
Amnesia Sexy Masquerade Party at 5 Degrees (Saturday, free if you play your cards right) Pro-tip: if you plan on going to the Amnesia Sexy Masquerade Party this weekend, open up your email right now and send a message to [email protected] with you and your friends' names. Good job, you just got yourself and your friends into a $20-a-person event for free. Make sure you tell your friends they'll owe you a drink for covering the tickets. Dethride Scavenger Hunt at 3 Kings Tavern (Sunday, $6) While this particular event has a bunch of bands playing as well, the really interesting thing is the scavenger hunt part. Grab your bicycle and a few friends and make your way down to 3 Kings Tavern if you're into the idea of hunting different items in the city on a bicycle. Go trick-or-treating/hand out candy (Sunday) If you've got children, your evening is pretty much already set out for you, but even if you don't there's no harm in passing out candy. Don't go skimping, either -- you can pick up one hell of a big bag of chocolates for ten bucks. Zombie Dance Party at Hi-Dive (Sunday, $5) If a bunch of bands or DJs aren't your idea of a pleasant Halloween evening but you still want to get out and get crunked up, you might find happiness at the hi-dive. We're not entirely sure what exactly Magic Cyclops plans on doing for this, but we can guarantee it'll be interesting.
