Although Pecha Kucha Night is another Japanese export being embraced from Seattle to Sydney, it’s also quickly becoming a Denver art-scene tradition. Pecha Kucha (it means “chit-chat” in Japanese) is an opportunity for artistic folks of all stripes to present twenty PowerPoint slides — at twenty seconds per slide — in an open-mike-meets-the-computer-age format. “It’s an informal way for people of different disciplines to hear what kind of projects people are working on and hopefully inspire collaboration in the future,” says co-organizer Jamie Kopke.

During their first two runs earlier this year, Kopke and co-founder Angela Schwab had more than 150 people at each showing. “After our last show, the list of presenters for this show filled up immediately,” said Kopke. “We’re already taking names for the January show.” And the presenters have varied widely, from the Magnet Mafia talking about guerrilla street art to a fabric artist who weaves fiber optics into her clothing and an aerialist who descended fabric from the ceiling and performed moves in time with her slides.

Pecha Kucha starts tonight at 8:20 p.m. (aka 20:20) at the Buntport Theater, 717 Lipan Street; admission is a suggested $5 donation. For more information call 720-946-1388 or go to www.pecha-kucha.org.
