Although the Ron Miles Trio -- trumpeter Ron Miles, guitarist Bill Frisell and drummer Brian Blade -- can swing something fierce, understated might be the best way to describe each of the musicians. They let their music do the talking, and the subtleties and nuances they bring make for some of the most recognizable sounds in jazz. Miless gorgeous, lush tone and breathy phrases perfectly complement Frisells slightly country-inflected guitar excursions; since the two both have Denver roots and have collaborated on various albums, theres often magical interplay when they gig together.
The Louisiana-born Blade has backed up Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Kenny Garrett and others and showcases stunning original compositions on the albums he records with his group, Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band. But hes also known for flexing versatile drum chops, and hell bring them when he joins with Frisell and Miles for whats bound to be an incredible collaboration. While many jazz musicians blow their own horns before they hit the stage, these three leave their egos at the door and let the music speak for itself.
