The run begins at 11 a.m. with several heats of sponsored participants who will wobble, in red feather boas and BYO-heels, from Steubens, 523 East 17th Avenue, to J.R.s, a mere three blocks away. This isnt a race, and there is no actual winner, says Art From Ashes development director Erin McLauthlin. The focus is on the fun and safety of racers, and the donations collected for the youth programs.
An after-party at J.R.s will follow, where prizes from local businesses will be part of a silent auction, as well as gifts for participants who raise the most money. This party portion of the event is 21-and-up, but across the street, Hamburger Marys will be offering a special race-day menu for the young ones, and Steubens is inviting runners back down the street for lunch, as well.
Last year, Westwords Jef Otte was the first to cross the finish line, and hell no doubt be back to defend his title but this time, in higher heels. For more information on how to participate or just be a supportive spectator, visit http://www.artfromashes.org/events.html.
