A Party for Pappy

Since it reopened in 2003, Boulder’s West End Tavern has embraced bourbon as the truest of American spirits. Today the restaurant and bar offers the largest bourbon list in all of Colorado, with nearly 75 varieties of the whiskey God gave the United States. And as far as general manager, Michael Lawinski, knows, West End pours every brand of bourbon available in the Centennial State, minus maybe a few random well brands.

“Not everything from Kentucky makes its way out to Colorado,” he says. “We really won’t say no to a bourbon we know we can get our hands on.”

Boosting its ever-growing library are exclusive single barrels from distillers such as Buffalo Trace and Old Rip Van Winkle. At tonight’s Pappy Van Winkle 17 Year Social, the Tavern officially introduces its newest, and perhaps most prestigious, acquisition yet. “No one else has a drop of this liquid,” Lawinski boasts about the wheated white lightning. “Also, Van Winkle has never been known to sell any bourbon by the barrel to anyone in the country,” making this “get” a pretty special one.

The Social begins at 6 p.m. and features special cocktails, flights and food at one-night-only prices. The West End Tavern is at 926 Pearl Street in Boulder. Get more information at www.thewestendtavern.com or by calling 303-444-3535.
