Ansari's confidence has taken him far in just a few short years. After his troupe, Human Giant, got its own MTV series of the same name, he started appearing on everything from Flight of the Conchords to Scrubs. Currently he plays the scene-stealing Tom Haverford on NBC's Parks and Recreation. It's enough to make you wonder if his role as the in-your-face, go-getting comedian Randy in Adam Sandler's Funny People has a little self-caricature to it. Indeed, on Ansari's new live DVD, Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening, there's a segment of Ansari performing as Randy, which means he may still slip into his subversive alter ego on stage.
"I hate describing what my new standup is about," Ansari says, "but if I made the new hour into a CD, some tracks would be "Why'd She Eat That Donut?," "Is My Cousin Harris a Cocaine Dealer?," "The Racist Locksmith" and "My Favorite Ethnic Slurs." Randy or no Randy, it sounds like there will be plenty of energy and hilarity during the comic's two-night stand in Denver this week.
