Absolutely Fabulous

"I just think it's an excellent book," enthuses Matt Kailey, staff writer for Out Front Colorado, author of Just Add Hormones and editor of the new anthology Focus on the Fabulous: Colorado GLBT Voices. For those who don't know, GLBT is an acronym for "gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered" — in other words, anyone who doesn't fall into the straight-and-narrow sexual-orientation and gender categories. "I think we've got some really talented people in Colorado," Kailey continues. "And it also reflects both the joy and the pain of being GLBT in Colorado. It reflects some of the political realities that we have here, and it reflects the strength of the GLBT community living side by side with some of the most conservative organizations in the country."

Kailey compiled the book using poetry, short stories, personal essays and experimental writing submitted by 33 Colorado citizens and GLBT community members; each piece features our fair state, whether in a major or minor role. Tonight at 7:30 p.m., meet members of this diverse crew at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street, when Kailey and about twenty of the book's contributors will convene for a book-signing extravaganza. Visit www.tatteredcover.com or call 303-436-1070 for details. Get out and be proud!
