Awards Away

As the Denver Art Museum's founding curator for modern and contemporary art, Dianne Perry Vanderlip built a world-class collection. The non-profit PlatteForum gives underserved youth the opportunity to learn from renowned artists. And for thirty years, Fiesta Colorado has preserved Spanish and Mexican cultural traditions through dance.

"It's a validation that what they've done and continue to do is important to the cultural fabric of the city," says Gina Rubano, special-events coordinator for the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, about this year's recipients of the Mayor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts. Tonight, join Mayor John Hickenlooper in celebrating the honorees at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. There will be painting, poetry, dancing and more by local artists. The free reception, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., ends with a surprise musical performance. Visit www.denvergov.org/DOCA for details.
