Bear Market

A lot of women need to be kicked out of their houses this time of year, like mama bears from their dens, and forced to put on makeup, buy new outfits and rejoin the real world. The only difference is that unlike the bears, who've been hibernating and emerge skinny and ravenous, human women come out, well, ten pounds overweight and, er, ravenous anyway. How does that work? Face it: You need help — and possibly a makeover — and you can find both at Belmar's Elements of Style event, replete with pampering stations, style sessions, clothing and jewelry vendors, take-home swag and healthful mock-tinis. Beautification takes place today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Belmar Plaza, Alaska Drive and Teller Place in Lakewood.

Admission is free, but participants are asked to bring a handbag or other accessory donation for Dress for Success; go to www.belmarcolorado.com or call 303-742-1520.
Sat., May 3, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., 2008

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
