Denver is still recovering from the Great American Beer Festival, but there’s no hangover in Colorado Springs, a serious beer town in its own right. Our southern neighbor will play host to the annual All Colorado Beer Festival today, featuring forty breweries from around the state.

“What’s good about this is that there are a lot of people who didn’t get into GABF who are looking forward to coming to ours,” says festival spokesman Mark Lutinski.

The festival, which includes live music, was created six years ago as a way to raise money for local charities, and organizers donate 100 percent of their proceeds to those groups. This year’s recipients are Theatreworks, the Empty Stocking Fund and Homefront Cares. Last year, festival organizers were able to split $30,000 among the three organizations.

There will also be a competition this year, with sixty beers entered into six categories; they’ll be rated by Beer Judge Certification Program-qualified judges.

The festival takes place at the Freedom Financial Expo Center, 3650 North Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. There are two sessions — one from 1 to 4:30 p.m., and the other from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $30 general admission and $40 VIP, which includes early admittance, free food and special beers; designated-driver tickets are available for $10.
