Denver once billed itself as “Paris on the Platte,” so the Paris Holiday Market is the perfect place to do some holiday shopping for the Denverites on your list. Although this is the market’s third year, it’s the first to be held in conjunction with the Denver Public Library’s Fresh City Life series, placing it just across the street from the Denver Art Museum’s Passport to Paris blockbuster.

The market is the brainchild of Fresh City Life’s Chris Loffelmacher, a crafter who points out the relevance of the Paris theme to the city’s history. “Denver was originally meant to look like one of the great European capitals, specifically Paris, because of Mayor Speer at the turn of the last century,” he says. “Denver has such a great connection to Paris, and I love that we were at one time thought of as a European outpost in America.”

Like the outdoor markets in Europe, the Paris Holiday Market will feature local vendors, handmade crafts and bling, French pastries, coffee, cider, Parisian cafe music and accordion concerts — but in an indoor setting. The market will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Denver Central Library, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway; for more information, visit denverlibrary.org/fresh or the Paris Holiday Market 2013 Facebook page.
Sat., Nov. 9, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 2013
