Colfax Avenue may be the longest main street in the world, but the most important stretch today is just a couple of miles long, from east of the State Capitol to Colorado Boulevard. “We’re just getting people out of their houses to play on Colfax — the same old thing,” says Don Novak, who’s been organizing the Colfax Stomp. But what’s old is new again, particularly in the Bluebird District, which is bursting with creative new enterprises and re-energized old standbys. “These businesses have really worked hard to help each other out,” Novak says. And they’ll prove it from 1 to 5 p.m., when spots between Vine and Race streets — everything from United Self-Defense Studios to Mama’s Cafe — will join in the free, family-friendly, many-block block party. Then from 8 p.m. to closing, the action moves west (and gets more adult), as bars ranging from the Cheeky Monk to the Irish Snug take over as party central, with live music and free food.
