Chow, Baby

Jax Fish House PR gal Kate Baird saw last year's changing of the guard at the James Beard House as a great opportunity for top Jax toques Sheila Lucero and Hosea Rosenberg. So she asked the duo to collaborate on a sample menu and sent it off to new Beard program director Izabela Wojcik, who gave it a big thumbs-up. Following in the footsteps of a stampede of Colorado cooks, Lucero and Rosenberg will go to New York on October 11, but today they'll present a trial run of their James Beard House Dinner at the Boulder Jax, 928 Pearl Street.

"The dry run is a chance for them to present the menu to the local community and work out any kinks," Baird notes, though it's also a chance for Jax regulars to celebrate: Starting with stacked Dungeness crab and winding up with a big sticky dessert of Ela Farm caramel apples, this is one din-din to die for.

The price is $75; seatings begin at 4 p.m. Make reservations at 303-444-1811 or

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
