April 15 can be depressing. Even if tax day means getting a decent return, you still know that the government is spent a good portion of your money on programs you'd rather not support. Ah, but that's democracy. Change your outlook by stopping at the Mercury Cafe tonight for the Tax Refundraiser and donating some hard-earned cash to organizations that even the most jaded taxpayer can feel good about.

Gathering in solidarity are the Derailer Bicycle Collective, which gives bikes to disadvantaged kids and teaches them how to maintain the machines; the Ethical Trade Action Group (E-TAG), which has a resolution on the table with Denver Public Schools to eliminate the purchase of sweatshop-made uniforms; Deproduction, producers of public-access Denver Community Television; the Three November Movement, organizers of large anti-war rallies; Food Not Bombs, which sets up temporary outdoor food kitchens around the Denver and Boulder area; and Code Pink, ralliers of women to work for peace and social justice.

Things get swinging at the Mercury, 2199 California Street, at 8:30 p.m., with the Flobots, Rhythm Vision and Ammon providing the evening’s soundtrack. The cover charge is $10; for more information, contact Kyle Backlund at 303-903-4622, or e-mail him at [email protected].
Sun., April 15, 8:30 p.m.
