Creature Comfort

Today, the Colorado Reptile Humane Society (13941 Elmore Road in Longmont) welcomes all visitors and potential pet owners for The Reptile Experience!, a once-a-year open-house event. The reptile advocacy and placement group, which is run solely by volunteers, works to find good homes for cold-blooded creatures who may have been displaced or given back to local, predominantly mammal-oriented animal shelters.

During this day of information and fundraising, volunteers also aim to educate the public on proper habitats, food and care needed to keep the little critters happy. “We want people to better understand the challenges of reptiles in captivity,” says volunteer and board-member Margie Allison.

Allison says that because turtles, lizards and snakes are relatively inexpensive to purchase, they become prime impulse pet-store purchases by owners unaware of the care needed. For just $5, anyone interested in meeting and learning more about these wonderful pets can visit the Reptile Humane Society today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.corhs.org or call 303-776-2070
