Brian Corrigan and Samuel Schimek, the guys behind the all-Colorado pop-up store YesPleaseMore in the Denver Pavilions, and their city sponsor, Create Denver, are all about starting a dialogue between local cultural groups. But they wanted to find the right way to do it.

“I went around beating down their doors,” Corrigan says. “There’s not a lot of funding for creative endeavors, and we were sick of asking people to do things for free. So we decided, ‘Why don’t we have some fundraisers so we can do things?’” The result is tonight’s Test Market fundraiser for Create Denver, which takes YesPleaseMore’s basic pop-up model a step further: Instead of selling merchandise, this party will be selling arts and culture.

“Everyone is programming a piece of the space. It’s like a box of chocolates,” Corrigan explains. “We’re inviting people to come and sample some of Denver’s best emerging cultural leaders and established leaders.” And he credits those leaders for jumping into the concept so enthusiastically. “It’s an exciting thing,” he continues. “How many cities do you know of where all kinds of institutions will come together to raise money for someone other than themselves? And the best part about this is how we’re wrapping the party in data that shows how culturally significant Denver is.”
