Dalai Lama Cancels October Appearances in Boulder

They were some of the hottest tickets in town. But for medical reasons, the Dalai Lama will not be coming to Boulder for a series of scheduled programs on October 20 and October 21, or attending any of his planned events in the United States next month. Today the Tibetan Association of Colorado received the following advisory from the Office of Tibet:

His Holiness arrived in the United States earlier this week for a medical evaluation. Upon completion of the evaluation, the doctors have advised that His Holiness take complete rest. As a result, His Holiness will be returning to Dharamsala, India, next week and will not be able to visit the United States next month. We deeply regret cancellation of the visit.

The Dalai Lama, who just celebrated his eightieth birthday, went for his annual check-up at the Mayo Clinic yesterday. After he gets some rest, the Office of Tibet has offered to consider rescheduling the cancelled events. His appearances at the University of Colorado in Boulder were being coordinated by the Tibetan Association of Colorado, the CU Student Government and the CU-Boulder Cultural Events Board. Tickets are automatically being refunded. For more information, go to colorado.edu/dalailama and dalailamacolorado.com.
