Dancing in the Streets

Prom is an event that most people dream about for years, but it rarely lives up to anyone’s expectations. Pandora on the Hill, however, has been helping Denverites exceed their gift-giving expectations for the past two decades by offering a dizzying array of funky, affordably priced options. Today, the store is celebrating its birthday with Pandora’s Best and Worst of Prom.

:Proprietress Stephanie Shearer says the prom theme was inspired by character Ren McCormack’s famous speech in the movie Footloose. And when Pandora employees started talking to customers about the theme, they heard a lot of prom horror stories. “We decided we should all get together and dance and just celebrate,” Shearer explains. “It’s amazing to me that any business can make it twenty years, but it’s even more amazing that this community has supported this business and this neighborhood way longer than it was cool to do so.”

Wear your best (or worst!) prom gear and head to the Deer Pile, 206 East 13th Avenue, from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight for punch, dancing and tiaras (followed by an after-party at City, O’ City) — and if you bring cans or a bag of cat or dog food, you’ll get a free goodie bag full of swag from Pandora. The prom is open to all ages; call 720-849-2482 for more information.
