Dash Your Brains Out

The month-long lurch towards Halloween begins on Saturday with the Zombie Dash, an urban race that provides a perfect training ground for the impending World War Z, no matter which side you'll be fighting for. "Whether you're trying to survive the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse or part of the ever-growing flesh-eating, walking dead horde, the Zombie Dash is for you," say event organizers.

The race starts at 11 a.m. at the Ginn Mill, 2041 Larimer Street, pitting costumed 2-6 person teams of zombie hunters, zombies, and "zombie bait" against each other in a series of brain-scrambling challenges at checkpoints throughout downtown Denver (and making for quite a spectacle for unsuspecting weekend visitors downtown). The Zombie Dash is 21+ (with apologies to all the little zombies from race organizers), and a portion of the $40 fee benefits the Flobots.org programs using music and the arts as tools to help stave off the Zombie Apocalypse for another generation. Pre-register at www.ZombieDash2011.CharityHappenings.org to put your own brains on the line; last-minute registration is Friday night at The Gin Mill from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There are awards, prizes, and food and drink discounts at the Ginn Mill after the Zombie Dash, but consider yourself a winner if you can manage to finish the day with your skull intact.
