The irrepressible Cora Vette (aka Reyna Von Vett), a grand dame of Denver’s burlesque scene, is revving up with a new show that conflates vintage and modern in a fun, fabulous way. “I was trying to stay within the classic framework of everything I’ve built and created in the burlesque community,” Vette explains, “but to update it and make it more exciting, so it’s not just pretty girls who are sparkly and taking their clothes off, because that quickly becomes boring. I wanted to give it more gas and make it more exciting.”

In the vintage-car world, there’s a term that describes what she’s done with this show: “restomod,” which keeps all the classic lines and details of an automobile but updates it with modern amenities, giving drivers the best of all worlds. And Vette is now gearing up for Cora Vette’s RestoMod, which she describes as “vintage, classic, and built for speed.” The weekly shows will feature a rotating cast that includes some boylesque performers and big, flashy group numbers. Vette herself has made all the costumes, so it’s guaranteed to be a fashion extravaganza.

See RestoMod tonight at 8 p.m. at the Voodoo Comedy Playhouse, 1260 22nd Street. Visit coravette.com to learn more.
Thursdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Oct. 3. Continues through Nov. 21, 2013
