Fabulous Fellini

A musical based on a Fellini film is, right off the bat, a bit of a risk, but if Nine, Rob Marshall's attempt to bring back the charisma of his previous film musical, Chicago, had anything going for it, it was the amazing cast and plethora of beautiful, sexy women, not the plot. And the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities is certainly hoping to revive some of that unbridled sex appeal when its own theatrical production of the Tony Award-winning Nine premieres tonight at 7:30 p.m. on the center’s Main Stage. They’ll also turn on the magic in the form of leading man Randal Keith, who lit up the stage there as Valjean in Les Misérables, who returns to take over the role of Guido Contini, the Casanovan central character made famous in the movies by Marcello Mastroianni and Daniel Day Lewis. Another in a long line of lavish, classy musicals put on by the Arvada Center in recent years, Nine has the potential to dazzle.

Performances continue daily except Mondays through May 16; for tickets, $47 to $57, visit www.arvadacenter.org or call the box office at 720-898-7200. The Arvada Center is at 6901 Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada.
April 16-18, 7:30 p.m.; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 7:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, 1 & 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 & 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: April 16. Continues through May 16, 2010
