Even in his last year, at the bottom of the ninth, with two outs and the Rockies down, when Todd Helton came to bat, hope would vibrate through Coors Field. Fans would roar, and everybody knew the team had a fighting chance, because this brawny beast with country swagger cared about Denver and stuck it out here through thick and thin.

“Todd will be remembered as the greatest Rockies player in franchise history,” says team spokesman Jay Alves. “After seventeen years in the purple pinstripes, he retired with Hall of Fame-worthy numbers. His numbers stand atop nearly every single category in the Rockies’ record books. There was nothing that he did not excel at on the field. But more important, he never forgot about his fans, and he never took playing for the Rockies, in the major leagues, for granted. Never.”

The Rockies will celebrate Helton’s legacy all weekend as the team takes on the Cincinnati Reds at Coors Field. Before tonight’s 6:40 p.m. game, join the first 15,000 fans to get your own Helton bobblehead. The first 15,000 fans at Saturday’s 6:10 game will get a Helton jersey, and the slugger will address the crowd prior to Sunday’s 2:10 game before his jersey number is officially retired.
