This week I've been inundated with press releases from various companies headed to Denver to show off their wares at the SnowSports Industries America Snow Show, January 26-31, at the Colorado Convention Center. One actually caught my eye: The new iON Goggles from Boulder-based ZEAL Optics features an embedded camera capable of shooting both 1080p True HD video and 8-megapixel still shots.
Last season I reviewed three different ZEAL goggles (and a cool solar-powered backpack), and I'm a fan. The new iON goggles, debuting this week at the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City and sure to be a hit at the SIA Snow Show, also feature an in-goggle viewfinder and on-camera controls, and look a lot less ridiculous than having a camera mounted on top of your head. If you're hell-bent on getting those POV pow shots, the $399 price tag should be no big deal (a comparable GoPro HD2 camera costs $299 and a Contour HD camera is $199).
Here's a sneak peek, and we'll post a full review once we get our grubby mittens on a pair:
