Get Twisted With Spike and Mike

Spike and Mike's Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation has been impressing, enlightening and grossing out audiences for 21 years, but that doesn't mean it has run out of steam. While the early days of the festival were marked by the talents of Bill Plympton, Mike Judge, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the new lineup of short films will shed light on new animators and creators.

"We try to put together a diverse show," says organizer and co-founder Craig "Spike" Decker. "Our current lineup has a lot of new stars from around the world, including a few women, who weren't represented before."

In addition to showcasing top talent, Spike and Mike used to enjoy emphasizing the “sick” and “twisted” part of the fest. But that's taken a bit of a back seat these days, with Spike and company spending more time highlighting the humorous and the interesting.

Check it out tonight or tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Beauty Bar, 608 East 13th Avenue; admission is free. For information, call 720-542-8024 or visit
Fri., April 8, 8 p.m.; Sat., April 9, 8 p.m., 2011
