Sarah Kirwin, the mastermind behind Bovine Metropolis Theatre’s CHICK IT! workshop, “thinks that women really work well together, and that we can learn more about ourselves as women working together by exploring different relationships that exist between women,” explains Bovine’s Linnea Brutlag.
“Also in this workshop, women will be taking on male gender roles,” Brutlag continues. “Initially when women take on male gender roles, they tend to go straight to the stereotypes, and what Sarah’s found in the all-women workshops is that once we go toward just the stereotypes, we find out how we really feel about men, and we actually learn from the experience and are able to then understand the other gender maybe a little better — and be better at improv because of it.”
The six-hour workshop will also concentrate on character development, to bring participating ladies beyond female stereotypes as well as male. “She really wants to stress getting out of the norm,” notes Brutlag, “so if you’re a really nice person, maybe you would explore being the tyrant.”
