The Golden History Center has some 600 photographs dating back to the 1800s. The subjects of these photos range from the seemingly mundane, like a 1934 high-school prom, to the iconic, such as workers at Coors Brewing Company. Golden in Focus: Historic Photo Show and Sale opens tonight in conjunction with the town's Candlelight Walk to show off 36 of these images, hand-picked by photographer and filmmaker Scott Dressel-Martin. This is the first time many of them have been displayed.

The photos are part of the museum's growing collection. "We have a wide variety of sources for these," says museum director Nathan Richie. "We've had donors ranging from local families to businesses." That variety is what makes the collection so interesting; it's a combination of stories from people who have lived in Golden and documentation of major events that have happened there. Many of the photos will also be available to purchase as prints.

Golden in Focus opens at 5 p.m. at the Golden History Center, 923 10th Street in Golden. Admission is free tonight and $4 thereafter. For more information, visit www.goldenhistorymuseums.org or call 303-278-3557.
