You get a lot for your buck at Gorinto, the occasional Wednesday-night, outside-the-box performance series at the Mercury Cafe. And tonight's edition, the first Gorinto in 2013, will be pouring it on and turning your ears and eyes inside-out with a program called Piano Mutations Live!
The event is a showcase for prepared-piano improvisations, hosted by Kurt Bauer of Bangsnap Records and featuring fifteen pianists in all, including some ivory-tickling novices charged with the responsibility of making cohesive noise.
But as the musical experimentation unfolds, there will be plenty to look at, too: Live painting, tango dancers and 16mm Stan Brakhage films screened by Boulder film archivist Joel Haertling will all enhance the experience, for just five bucks at the door. And for only $5 more, you can dive into a healthy vegetarian meal.
