Best known for penning Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives, author Ira Levin is responsible for some chilling cultural touchstones. The Vintage Theatre will bring one of Levin’s lesser-known — but equally frightening — works to the stage tonight for a well-timed Friday the 13th opening. Veronica’s Room tells the story of a young woman who is manipulated by an older couple into impersonating a long-deceased girl named Veronica, and that’s when things start to get scary: “The young woman gets trapped in a Veronica nightmare,” says director Bernie Cardell.

“The thriller is definitely my favorite thing to direct on stage,” explains Cardell. “There are a lot of opportunities to affect an audience with a thriller, get them to squirm in their seat, get them to be a little bit uncomfortable, get them to be scared.”

Consider yourself warned. Veronica’s Room runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. through October 6 at Vintage, 1468 Dayton Street in Aurora. Tickets, $20 in advance or $25 at the door, are available online at vintagetheatre.com, at the box office, or by calling 303-856-7830.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: Sept. 13. Continues through Oct. 13, 2013
