The tiny town of Glendale has been doing a bang-up job of celebrating July 4th for years - though its festivities, which always fall a day before or after Independence Day, never compete with all those municipalities that shoot off their own spectaculars on the holiday proper. The date isn't the only convenience; a few years ago, the Glendale Whole Foods Market, 870 South Colorado Boulevard, added an old-fashioned cookout on its patio - which also happened to provide prime fireworks viewing for well-served patrons. Sadly, the fireworks have been scratched this year because of fire danger. But the party will go on.

The Whole Foods Market Feast is back this year, with even more entertainment opportunities. There'll be brats, burgers (meat and veggie), salads, snacks and desserts available for a nominal price; this year, they're also adding a Colorado Craft Beer tasting for $12 per person. There will be free activities for kids and live music, too. You don't always have to look to sky to have fun on the day before the Fourth of July.

The feast fest starts at 5 p.m. today (beer tasting begins at 7 p.m.); visit www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/coloradoblvd for information.
Tue., July 3, 5-9:30 p.m., 2012
