Kick Out the JAAMMS

How is this year different from all other years at the Mizel Center for Arts and Culture? The former Leah Cohen Festival of Jewish Books and Authors, the organi-zation’s long-running annual combination Jewish book fair and author series, has morphed into the Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies and Music Festival, a kosher cul-ture feast of everything Judaic under the sun. And its title couldn’t be more succinct: The JAAMM Fest features a little taste of everything.

Along with the esteemed book bazaar, which thankfully returns for its usual two-week run, a kaleidoscope of events, concerts and gallery shows continue through November 9 at the center, 350 South Dahlia Street, in the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center. Admission to films and most author lectures is $6 to $8 (prices vary for music events); go to or call 303-316-6360 for details, a complete schedule and tickets.

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
