King of the Mountains

Let's face it: With the onset of winter and the arrival of snow, there are more competition-and-music combination platters in the high country than you can shake a ski pole at. But this year, Telluride's Jeep King of the Mountain and BaseCamp Music Experience is arguably the best of the lot. The action on the slopes will feature Olympic and X Games champions facing off in snowboard cross and ski cross races, and when you add in the action on the stage, you've got a world-class event that just might be the best combo since peanut butter and jelly.

Last night, the Swollen Members, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Blackalicious, Danielia Cotton and Dirtie Blonde took the stage; tonight's musical acts include a rare DJ set by none other than Macy Gray and socially conscious folk rock by Michael Franti & Spearhead, plus sets by Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, DJ Bedz, Kinetix, Fractalia and the Mountain Mystics. Get your tickets ($15 to $49 per show) at 1-866-468-7621, or the Telluride Visitors Center.
