Some past winners of the Latke Cook-off include "Latkupcakes," "Perfectly Pear" and "Pizza Latkes." Other versions have included carrot cake, zucchini and gluten-free versions. So far this year, entries include "Pink Potato Pancakes" and "Sweet Potato with Asian Flair."
Thirteen teams -- several of which have two chefs -- are competing in the cook-off. Prizes are kitchen/cooking/Hanukkah-themed, the most coveted being the participation apron.
"Collecting the aprons each year has become an honored tradition, especially for our young chefs, many of whom are entering their fourth year of competition," says organizer Susan Waldman.
The event, which is open to the public, takes place at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia Street, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. (or until the latkes are all gone). Admission for non-temple members is $55 per family/$20 individual/donation only for seniors 65+. Space is limited; to RSVP, or for more information, contact Elaine Lee at 303-388-4239 or visit www.micahdenver.org.
