Love Is Blind

They say love is blind, and the diners at the Boulder Blind Cafe’s Valentine’s Dinner in the Dark certainly won’t be able to argue with that statement. Musician Brian Rocheleau began the Blind Cafe after experiencing one in Iceland; they were such a success that he continued them throughout 2010 and expanded to Portland and Austin. But this version will be a little bit different: Presented in honor of St. Valentine’s Day, it's the deluxe edition.

The multi-course, gluten-free vegan meal includes a Napa cabbage wrap with brown basmati rice; a baby arugula and spinach salad with Mission figs, grape tomatoes, daikon sprouts, spiced pepita seeds and charred tomato vinaigrette; tempeh with stir-fried veggies, red curry sauce and white quinoa; and a mango-coconut chocolate mousse served in a fluted chocolate cup with green tea for dessert. Guest will also be served a pre-dinner drink.

Head to the Hotel Boulderado, 2115 13th Street in Boulder, at 6 p.m.; admission to the dinner is $75 per person (not including tax or tips), with a $99 option that includes a pound of Unseen Bean coffee and an Unseen Bean chocolate espresso bar. Proceeds benefit the Boulder Guide Dogs Puppy Raisers, and there will be poetry and live music to round out the evening. Visit www.boulderblindcafe.com for information, to sign up or to learn about future events. (And a word to the wise: Wear something washable!)
