Mad Grillz

Think you can barbecue with the big boys? Prove it today, when a cartel of backyard grillers goes stroke-to-stroke against local caterers and restaurant chefs to find out who’s the hottest. Thrilla on the Grilla is being held in conjunction with the Castle Pines North Octoberfest, which will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and feature live music, plenty of kids’ activities, heaps of German sausages and gallons of beer, along with chicken wings and drummettes — the meat of choice for the barbecue battle.

The challenge is the brainchild of Shannon Wilson, who recently auditioned to appear on Grill It!, Bobby Flay’s popular Food Network series, and made it to the final round before going up in flames. “I’m a huge chef by hobby, and trying out for Flay’s show inspired me to put a grilling competition together here,” explains Wilson, who’s also behind grubology.com, a Denver food blog. “The whole point of this is to have a spirited competition that’s fun and gets everyone together to cook and eat.”

Admission to the entire Octoberfest at Castle Pines Marketplace, 560 East Castle Pines Parkway, is free; food and drink will be avail-able for purchase. For more info, go to www.thrillaonthegrilla.com.
