Mars on Life

Boulder herbalist Brigitte Mars, a professional champion of natural remedies for forty years, knows – by default – a lot about how to perk up your sex life without popping a bunch of pills. So it’s simply about time that she put all that wisdom down in a book.

“People need help,” Mars says of her decision to write it all down. “I see so many of them having a hard time being happy in their relationships and staying married. Relationships are like a dance, trying to keep passion and love alive.” In The Sexual Herbal, she offers holistic help learning the steps by not only addressing herbal remedies and health and diet issues, but also by sharing advice on the art of flirting, finding the right person and healing a broken heart. That rounded approach, she notes, is essential: “There are already a lot of wonderful books on sex, but they all assume that everyone is coming into a relationship totally healthy and intact. That’s not always the case. A lot of people say they wish they had this book when they were younger, but I think you really need continuing education on sex and love.”

Help is here: Mars will discuss and sign her gentle manual tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl Street in Boulder; for information, visit www.boulderbookstore.com or call 303-447-2074.

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
